Whether on radio, television, or the hottest club in the city, DJ Quicksilva gets it poppin’ …

Quicksilva is a one man brand.

Award-winning spin master DJ Quicksilva refuses to quit: A prominent voice on local and syndicated radio, listeners in the DC area can catch Quick twice a day on 93.9 WKYS, while the rest of the country can check out his skills on The Russ Parr Morning Show.

With over two decades in the game, the CEO of Party Boys DJ crew recently scored a place as a weekly guest DJ on BET’s 106 & Park and as he rides high on a pair of nominations for the 2012 Global Spin Awards, he sits down with HHW to discuss his career and the work ethic needed to go from ordinary to extraordinary.

HHW: Exactly how does one become an official Ciroc Boy?
QUICKSILVA: You cannot apply to be a Ciroc Boy, Puff finds you. Him and Shawn Prez look to the top markets in the country and do their research. If you really got your market on lock and are an infuencer ,they will find you and call you like they did myself and all the other official Ciroc Boys.

HHW: Tell us a little about your latest gig over at BET.
QUICKSILVA: You can see me on 106 & Park, I’m one of the official DJs now, I’ll be on every Monday for the next couple weeks, so check your local listings. Also as far as radio, I’m on the Russ Parr Morning Show, which is syndicated. Shoutout to Russ Parr for putting me on that.

HHW: Hows’ the energy between the new 106 hosts?
QUICKSILVA: Good. The best way to put it is that, alotta people, when they heard the show was going from two to four hosts, gave their own personal judgement before they gave it a chance. The good thing is the four hosts have good chemistry and bring their own personality. It takes time to build the right energy, but I think it’s gonna be great. BET does a great job of making sure the chemistry is right, so props to BET for being a liaison of putting together a great team. Overall it’s still 106, which is one of the few music countdown shows remaining on television.

HHW: So, as far as you know there’s been no backstage drama?
QUICKSILVA: Absolutely not. I’ve heard the b.s. rumors and things like that, but nobody’s beefin’ and nobody’s ego is in the way. It’s just a blessing to be able to be on TV.

HHW: You hear the word “branding” get misused so much these days. Really break down how a DJ, producer or artist properly builds a brand around their craft.
QUICKSILVA: It’s like the people that wake up and say, “rise and grind.” It sounds good on Twitter, but most of the people that post that are at home doing nothing. Let’s start here: What works for DJ Quicksilva may not work for DJ Joe Blow, but when building a brand, you have to always go above and beyond what people want or expect out of you. I continuously grow because I study the market. You have to always keep younger people in your circle because they keep you up on what’s new. There are people that think Twitter is what’s now, when Instagram is what’s now. Also when building a brand, you have to invest in yourself.

HHW: Buying the biggest chain you can afford is not considered an investment in yourself. Let’s put that out there.
QUICKSILVA: Absolutely not. That’s not real. Some of the young people actually think the stuff they see in these music videos are real. You have to put money into your company, yourself, the label, or whatever. The music business is 90% business and 10% music. Unless you learn the business aspect, you’ll always be overlooked. Come up with a budget and a team. You can’t build a brand without a team.

Read the FULL interview in this week’s issue of HHW. Quicksilva gives tips on how social media can benefit your brand, surviving the music market and gives us his picks of which DMV rappers got next!!!

Be sure to catch Quick do his thing on tonight’s (Monday, November 17)  episode of BET’s 106 & Park.
